PURPOSE:To make a device easy to put a finger and enable the device to improve accuracy of fingerprint reading by providing a recessed part copied after the shape of a finger on the fingerprint reading face outside of a prism reflecting face that reflects parallel rays of light from a lens. CONSTITUTION:When parallel rays of light obtained through a lens 2 are projected on a prism 3, outside of the reflecting face forms a fingerprint reading face, and a recessed part 3a after the shape of a finger is formed at the center of the fingerprint reading face. When a person who registered fingerprints beforehand inserts an ID card into a card reader 7, and puts a specified finger on the concavity 3a of the prism 3, a camera 4 photographs the result and video signals are sent out to a picture processing section 5. The processing section A/D converts the signals and characteristic is compared through a characteristic parameter extracting section 6 and a coincidence detector 10, and if coincidence is recognized, a release command OPEN is outputted. Thus, by providing the recessed part 3a, the device is made easy to place a finger, and accuracy of fingerprint reading can be improved.
