Feedstuff, especially for dogs, contains hydrolyzed feather meal, preferably in an amount from about 20 to about 30% by weight, calculated on the total weight of the feedstuff, as well as common feedstuff ingredients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, water, minerals, and vitamins. Hydrolized feather meal is prepared by autoclaving e.g. waste feathers at a pressure of 3 atmospheres for 30 minutes. By using hydrolyzed feather meal in feedstuffs for animals, there is achieved a sufficient degree of satiety without an increase in weight. In addition to the weight adjusting capacity, the product has a favourable effect upon the skin; above all, it eliminates disturbing shedding. Moreover, the product has a good dietetic effect upon the intestinal function, particularly among dogs which are predisposed to constipation. |
