An ultraviolet irradiation lamp having a radiator (1) and a sheath (14) which surrounds the radiator (1) and is opaque to the UV-B and UV-C components of the ultraviolet radiation; the sheath (14) consists either of pretreated quartz glass or temperature-stable glass. Tolerance zones for the thermal expansion of the glass are provided in the region of the base (12, 13) for the use of temperature-stable glass, retention being provided by overlaps of the tubular ends of the sheath (14) with projections of the base (12, 13). <IMAGE>
