In the process according to the invention, in order to achieve the adhesive bond between honing stones and the like and their metallic support elements, a chemically reacting primer/adhesive system is used which comprises a specific copolyester as hot-melt adhesive and an isocyanate dissolved in the solvent, as primer. The honing stones are coated with the specific copolyester, which, in the melt state, can be applied as a thin film with the aid of a roller applicator or the like. The coating of the stones can take place entirely independently of the coating of the support elements with the isocyanate (primer). The coated honing stones can be subjected to interim storage of any desired length. When required, they are removed from the store, after which their surface coated with the adhesive is warmed within a few seconds, for example by means of a quartz lamp, until the adhesive melts. The honing stones with the molten adhesive layer are then applied to the adhesive surface, coated with the isocyanate, of the support element, and the adhesive surfaces are pressed against one another for a short period of a few seconds. Using this procedure, extended heating times and the problems caused by these are avoided.
