PURPOSE:To prevent the discharge of ammonia to the outside of the system along with the treated liqour by carrying out the oxidation of BOD components and ammonia and the succeeding denitrification on addition of alcohol with microbes at specified pH in connection with a coke oven gas liquor. CONSTITUTION:A coke oven gas liquor 1 is regulated at 8.0+0.2pH in a nitration vessel 20, and the BOD components and ammonia are oxidized by microbes. Methanol is added to the liquor in a denitrification vessel 24 wherein denitrification is carried out by microbes. Consequently, ammonia is completely oxidized and then reduced to gaseous nitrogen, the discharge of ammonia to the outside along with the treated liquor is prevented, and the construction cost of a distillation tower to remove ammonia and the related cost can be dispensed with.
