PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of a thick-coated film at the start of coating by combining a pump for feeding a liq. at a specified rate with a pump for feeding the liq. temporarily, and feeding the liq. at an increased rate in the transitional period when a web is coated. CONSTITUTION:When a web such as photographic film is coated with various kinds of coating liqs., the first feed pump 11 for feeding always a coating liq. 14 at a specified rate in the stationary state and the second feed pump 13 for feeding an additional liq. 16 are provided. The additional liq. 16 is fed temporar ily in the transitional state, and the liq. is supplied at more than a specified rate. Consequently, formation of a thick coated film at the start of coating is prevented, an increase in the drying load is also prevented, and hence a homogeneous web without any contaminants is obtained.
