PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fibers having improved strength with good spinning property, by incorporating an alumina based inorganic compound with polyvinyl alcohol, concentrating and aging the resultant mixture, adjusting the viscosity stepwise, and dry spinning the resultant spinning solution. CONSTITUTION:(A) An alumina based inorganic compound, e.g. aluminum oxy chloride, is incorporated with (B) polyvinyl alcohol within 95/5-70/30, preferably 90/10-80/20 mixing ratio range, and the resultant mixture solution is then concentrated under reduced pressure to give 500-1,000 poises viscosity at 20 deg.C and aged at 30-60 deg.C for several days. The resultant spinning solution having 1,000-4,000 poises viscosity at 20 deg.C after aging is then dry spun through a spinning nozzle to give fibers, which are heat-treated to afford the aimed fibers.
