PURPOSE:To obtain the large-sized quartz glass by substituting water for most of alcohol which is the dispersion medium in an SiO2 particle solution in the course of concentration. CONSTITUTION:A metallic alkoxide is hydrolyzed by a basic catalyst, then concentrated, the following two solutions of a basic hydrolytic solution (A) having >=20% SiO2 concentration expressed in terms of weight and an acidic hydrolytic solution (B) are allowed to react with each other, as a result, gelatinized, dried and sintered at a prescribed temp. to produce the quartz glass. In this case, in the concentrating process of the basic hydrolytic solution (A), water is substituted for alcohol which is the dispersion medium of the amorphous SiO2 fine particles. |
