PURPOSE:To facilitate selection of recently used symbols by indicating, when the relatively recently used symbols are re-used, on a list by code signals from a symbol learning buffer. CONSTITUTION:In an editing memory unit, there are provided, in addition to a sentence buffer, a symbol buffer memory for storing the code signals of symbols used at least once during formation of the sentence in order they are used recently, and a symbol buffer 18 for storing the code signals of the total of symbols in fixed preference sequence. In the selection of the targeted symbols, it is decided whether the code signals of the desired or targeted symbols exist in the buffer 17. If affirmative, list indication is performed on the basis of code signals from the buffer 17. If negative, list indication is performed on the basis of the code signals from the buffer 18. When the symbol D, for example, is selected, the symbol D is stored at the foremost address of the buffer 17 by re-charging of the buffer 17.
