A propelling pencil comprising an outer cylinder made of synthetic resin which can be easily molded as a unitary structure and an engaging member incorporating a chuck device including a lead propelling mechanism, the engaging member being detachably inserted into the outer cylinder from the rear side thereof, and thereby providing excellent appearance and light-touching operation.
