PURPOSE:To facilitate the production of a dresser and to enable fabrication with a high degree of accuracy, by forming a dressing surface having a cross-sectioned shape corresponding to that of a female thread groove, on the outer surface of the dresser so that the amount of diamond particles is made to be large even though the diameter of the female thread is small. CONSTITUTION:After the inclined angle theta of a dressor rotary shaft 22 is set to be equal to the lead angle theta of a female thread 2, a support member 14 is laid along the XY plane in parallel with the latter, and a slide member 16 is swung to be set so that a predetermined turning radius of a dressor 6 or the envelop surface of a dressing surface 7 corresponds to the thread groove specification of articles. In this condition a rotary plate 13 is swung about the X axis by a predetermined swing angle of less than pi/2, and support column 10 is reciprocated in synchronization with the swinging operation of the rotary plate 13. Further, the eccentricity P of a rotary member 5 such as, for example, spindle, etc. is adjusted by a cutting device, and the member is made into contact with the outer peripheral surface of a grind stone 3. When the support column 10 is reciprocated in synchronization with the swinging operation of the support member 14, the locus of the innermost point P defines the envelope line 23 of the dressing surface 7 which is combined with motion of the member to depict the bottom line of thread groove of the female thread.
