PURPOSE:To stabilize production condition and to reduce variance in characteristics by applying and drying a magnetic paint on a base and then smoothing the surface of the base. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic paint is applied to the base unwound from an unwinding part 1 for the rolled base at a coating part 2. The produced magnetic recording medium 4 is dried in a drying zone 3 and guided to a surface treating process through a guide roll 5. Then, the surface of the recording medium 4 is treated by a calender roll 6 and the treated recording medium 4 is taken up around a take-up part 7. Thus, the magnetic recording medium 4 is formed by applying and then drying the magnetic paint on the basis and is supplied for a surface treatment as a next stage, so the condition of the surface treatment is made constant and the medium is produced with small variance.
