PURPOSE:To prevent the increase of a memory capacity by converting a specific level of a digitally converted signal to another preliminarily determined level and inserting a digital signal in a specific level to the part, where drop-out occurs, to perform the drop-out compensation processing. CONSTITUTION:The reproduced output of a luminance signal inputted from a terminal 21 not only is supplied to an A/D converter 24 through an FM demodulator 22 but has drop-out detected by a drop-out detector 23. The output of the converter 24 is inputted to a specific level detecting circuit 25 and is converted to another preliminarily determined level and is given to a TBC31. The time base is compensated by the TBC31, and the output is inputted to a drop-out compensator 32 and a specific level detector 33. The drop-out part of the digital signal outputted from the TBC31 is compensated by the compensator 32 in accordance with the output of the detector 33. The compensated signal is converted to an analog signal by a D/A converter 34 and is outputted. Thus, the increase of the memory capacity of the TBC31 is prevented.
