PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance using inexpensive raw material and reagent, easily, by carrying out the catalytic hydrogenation of 2-(1,3-pent adienyl)-3-methyl-2-cyclopenten-1-one in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a metal carbonyl compound or its arene complex. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula III can be produced by using 2-(1,3-pentadienyl)-3-methyl-2-cyclopenten-1-one of formula I as a starting raw material, and subjecting the compound to catalytic hydrogenation reaction in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a metal carbonyl compound of formu la II (M is metallic atom selected from Cr, Mo and W; arene is arene ligand; x is 1 or 2; y is 3-6; z is 0 or 1-3) or its arene complex (e.g. hexacarbonyl chromium, mesitylenetricarbonyltungsten, etc.) preferably in an inert organic solvent such as methanol, at about 130-230 deg.C under a hydrogen pressure of e.g. about 2-100kg/cm<2>. |
