PURPOSE:To reduce a dead angle and to enable the setting of a detection range with an arbitrary shape, by operating whether the position of matter to be detected calculated on the basis of the outputs of an azimuth angle detection circuit and a distance detection circuit is present in a detection range given by a specific condition formula and outputting a matter conditional formula. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic pulse is emitted from a transmitting means 1 and the reflected wave from matter M to be detected is received by a receiving means 2 and a discrimination means 3 discriminates whether the matter M to be detected is present in a detection range. In the discrimination means 3, the distance up to the matter M to be detected is detected on the basis of the time delay of the received reflected wave to the ultrasonic pulse by a distance detection circuit 5. Next, the position of the matter M to be detected is operated from the outputs of the circuits 4, 5 by an operational discrimination circuit 6 to operate whether said position is present in the detection range given by a specific conditional formula to output a matter detection signal. By imparting a proper conditional formula, a detection range with an arbitrary shape can be easily set and dead angle can be reduced. |
