PURPOSE:To enable automatic painting generating no irregularity in the thickness of a paint film, by cyclically repeating painting with respect to a box shaped article to be painted having a corrugated surface in such a state that two nozzles are held to specific directions. CONSTITUTION:In painting an ocean container, a first nozzle 1 is arranged so as to be capable of painting a first inclined surface 5, a first mountain surface 46 and a first valley surface 44 and a second nozzle 34 is arranged so as to be capable of painting a second inclined surface 47b, a second mountain surface 46b and a second valley surface 44c. In this case, when the distance between at least one of the nozzles 33, 34 and a position to be painted is set to (r)cm and the angle formed by the imaginary straight line connecting the position to be painted and the nozzle and a surface to be painted to thetarad and proportion constant to (k), the thickness Tcm of a paint film is represented by formula 1 and the axial directions of the nozzle are determined so as to adjust the ratio of the thinnest part and most thickened art of the paint film, which was calculated by using said formula, to a definite value or less.
