PURPOSE:To enable an efficiency and a response performance to be improved in the power transmission of an internal-combustion car by controlling a change- gear ratio of a stepless transmission based on an engine output torque, a revolv ing speed, and a ratio of the revolving speed between the input and output shafts of a hydraulic torque converter. CONSTITUTION:Signals for an engine (1) speed nE, an output torque TE, an engine speed n of an input shaft 4 of a hydraulic torque converter 2, and an engine speed n2 of an output power shaft 5 are inputted into an arithmetic circuit 13 from each of respective sensors 21, 22, and 26. The arithmetic circuit 13 is allowed to set a pulley ratio R of a pulley 8 in a stepless V belt transmis sion 7 based on an engine output torque TE, the revolving speed nE, and a ratio of the revolving speed n2/n1 between the input and output shafts of the torque converter in accordance with the stated program. Then, the output signals is applied to a pulley ratio control device 14 for a change gear control. This configuration enables an efficiency and a response performance to be improved.
