PURPOSE:To stabilize image displaying for a long period of time, by irradiating laser light directly upon getters from outside a glass container to cause the getters to flash to prevent the decrease in emission from a cathode located in the glass container and to prevent gas from being generated from the getters. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of getters 36 are provided in the gap between a back electrode 30 and a rear panel 33 so that the getters are fixed with tension and located out of contact with the back electrode 30. Laser light 37 is irradiated upon the getters 36 from outside a container around the rear panel 33 to cause the getters to flash to adsorb gas generated from the materials of component parts in the container.
