The device for firing a recoilless projectile is so designed that no noise, flash or smoke is emitted during firing. The device consists of a tubular case (1) with an abutment (4,5) at each end (2,3). The casing contains a first brake ring (12), the projectile (13) mounted in resilient rings (8), a first driving disc (14) a fracture bolt (29), a second driving disc (16), an inert mass (17) and a second brake ring (18). Each driving disc (14,16) has a bell-shaped opening (19,20) which engages the conical end (28,29) of the corresponding brake ring. The angle of this conical end is of such a magnitude that the braking force generated by the deformation of the braking ring is less than the critical buckling load of the braking ring.
