PURPOSE:To prevent the contamination of a monomer mixture and to maintain the specified refractive index of an optical transmission body by supplying successively the monomer mixture from the outside into a tube in synchronization with the moving speed of the tube. CONSTITUTION:The forming tube 2 is fed from the bottom end side by a driving mechanism into a polymn. treating chamber 3. A valve 13 is opened by a detection signal from a sensor 11 and the monomer mixture 1 in a storage tank 10 flows into the tube 2 when the liquid surface 1A of the monomer mixture 1 falls below the sensor. The supply is stopped on rising of the liquid surface 1A above the sensor 11. The level of the liquid surface 1A of the mixture 1 in the tube 2 is maintained always in the position of the sensor 11, i.e., near the inlet of the light irradiating area while the tube 2 in fed in the chamber 3 at a constant speed. The monomer mixture 1 in the chamber 3 is irradiated with light 14 and the polymn. progresses from the inside wall side of the tube toward the center. The contamination by the polymer component of the monomer mixture in an unreacted state is thereby substantially eliminated and the variance in the refractive index distribution of a lens is considerably decreased.
