Dry cooling of coke by recycled gas, using sensible heat of gas

Method of using the sensible heat produced during the dry cooling of coke comprises operation of a gas recycle system in which the coolant gas leaving the coke cooling chamber is used to preheat the coal to be coked and also passes through a waste heat boiler or similar consumer of heat, and then to a combined washer-cooler, with simultaneous dust removal, to cool it to approximately coolant temp. before returning to the coke cooling chamber. Surplus recycle gas is purged.
