PURPOSE:To make a stable image, by securing linear cathodes with cylindrical inorganic pipes to a support to enhance an anti-vibrating effect against resonance and external vibration. CONSTITUTION:Linear cathodes 11 are secured with cylindrical pipes 16 of an inorganic material such as quartz glass to a support 12 so that the vibrative energy of each linear cathode is changed into friction between the cathode and the cylindrical pipe and structural damping energy in the pipe. As a result, the amplitude of the linear cathode 11, which would be + or -20-200mum under resonance, is reduced to + or -20mum or less. The shake of an image and the irregularity of its luminosity are thus decreased greatly. The decrease does not fall with the lapse of time. Therefore, the image of high quality is made with high reliability.
