PURPOSE:To detect securely whether the front or back of a recording paper is properly set according as the recording paper is printed or not by printing the exchanged recording paper after the recording paper of a recording device is exchanged. CONSTITUTION:In paper resetting processing to the recording device for employing the recording paper such as a heat sensitizing paper where only the single side can be recorded, the top of the roll paper-like recording paper is matched to the recording position, and a black pattern and a date, etc., for instance, are printed. The recording paper is discharged, cut and rewound to the recording position, and the cut recording paper is discharged. When the front and back of the recording paper is properly set, a printing pattern is recorded on the cut recording paper. If the front and back of the recording paper is erroneously set, the cut recording paper is blank, and the front and back of the recording paper is set reversely again.
