4-(1,1-Dimethyl propyl) 2-methyl 3-(2,6-dimethyl morpho-4-yl) propyl benzene is m-de by (a) condensing 1,1-dimethylpropyl benzene with propionic anhydride in presence of AlCl3 at below 100 deg.C, cooling in ice water, extracting the aq. suspn. with diisopropyl ether and removing solvent under reduced pressure; (b) condensing the 4-(1,1-dimethylpropyl) propiophenone obtd. with formaldehyde and 2,6-dimethyl morpholine in ethanol, in acid medium under reflux; and (c) converting the 1-oxo gp. into methylene by redn. with hydrogen in presence of Pd/C as catalyst, in glacial acetic acid.
