The object underlying the invention is to improve the throughput of belt filter presses for dewatering suspensions, slurries or the like which are equipped with a top belt, preferably a sieve belt, and a bottom belt, preferably a sieve belt, these belts being conducted over rollers, of which in each case at least one is driven and, in the running direction of the belts, at least one collective press zone, in particular a wedge-shaped press zone and a downstream high pressure zone being provided, upstream of which is provided, if necessary, a screening zone for gravity dewatering. The abovementioned object is achieved according to the invention by at least one additional belt (25), preferably a sieve belt, being arranged between the bottom belt (2) and the top belt (3), which additional belt is conducted over additional rollers (26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32) and runs, at least in the collective press zone (21, 24) between the bottom belt (2) and the top belt (3). According to the invention, in addition to the increase of the throughput, space-saving is also achieved and the labour and energy costs are reduced. The filter cake, moreover, is better supported. <IMAGE>
