Seal for a device which can be actuated by means of a pressure medium, in which the seal (7) or part of the seal is manufactured from a material which has a constituent that can be magnetically polarised so that the seal or part of the seal is magnetised. A magnetically actuable switch (8) is actuated by a relative motion between an element (4) of the device on which the seal (7) is mounted and the said switch (8). The material can, for example, be barium ferrite. The seal (7) can be provided with a main body and lips or sealing portions of greater flexibility, both parts of the seal being composed of an elastomeric material, of which only the elastomeric material of the main body encloses the magnetically polarisable constituent. <IMAGE>
