Novel 3-carbazoylthiopropionic acids, a process for their preparation and cosmetic compositions for the treatment of the hair or of the scalp, containing customary cosmetic carriers and additives, which contain these novel 3-carbazoylthiopropionic acids for the control of dandruff. The 3-carbazoylthiopropionic acids have a good activity against dandruff, and most of these compounds can be used in most cosmetic preparations because of their relatively good solubility in the solvents customary for cosmetic preparations, but in particular in clear preparations.
