A slave unit for connection to a prime mover vehicule so as to supplement the tractive effort of the vehicle. The slave unit (30) has an engine for driving wheels (34) or tracks. Drive to the wheels is controlled by a control circuit in accordance with the output of the prime mover vehicule (32) so that the slave unit operates as a robot to augment the tractive effort of the prime mover vehicle. By using an hydraulic transmission which effectively brakes the slave unit when drive is shut down, the necessity of a braking system or of braking control by the prime mover vehicle is avoided. |
