Stairway

Up until now, stairways in homes have mainly comprised metal substructures and wooden stairs fixable on horizontal shoulders of the substructures. The substructures are fixed in the stairwell. The invention now provides wooden substructures 7 comprising narrow, deep-webbed wooden cheeks (8-11) having stair-like recesses 20 on the upper side for bearing vertically adjustable stairs 12. This is purely a screw construction which can be prefabricated and readily assembled on site even by the layperson. <IMAGE>
