The container for animals e.g. a horse box has a floor, a front wall, and two side walls of which the forward half is connected. An upwardly swivelable door at the rear is connected with a horizontal rod which is bent downwards through 90 deg. at the level of the door and pivoted to it. At the level of the horizontal connections, the end is provided with a buffer. - To prevent the animal from leaving the box by opening the door when pushing rearward against it, further hinges are arranged beyond the buffer so that the door is locked in its closed position.
