A digitally driven color display device comprising a display unit (12) in which display elements to display picture elements of three colors are arranged in the form of a matrix being shifted by one picture element or by one and a half picture elements in each row, and drive circuit units (13a, 13b) which successively change the chrominance signals of each of the three colors to supply them to drive electrodes in each column in the display unit (12), wherein the drive circuit units (13a, 13b) include switching means which successively changes all of the chrominance signals of three colors to supply them to the drive electrodes in each column or which alternatingly switches the two chrominance signals selected from the chrominance signals of three colors in every other column to supply them to the drive electrodes of each column, and further includes inversion switching means (2, 3, 4, 21) to invert the order of supplying the three or two chrominance signals. In the display unit (12), the display elements may be shifted by either one picture element or one and a half picture elements. Further, the drive circuit units (13a, 13b) may be divided or freely arranged. |
