In an embroidering machine with segments, arranged in rows next to and/or above one another and axially displaceable independently of one another, having embroidering tools and embroidering-tool bars which can be coupled in a programmed manner, each 4/4-embroidering segment consists of one or more extendable and/or retractable 4/4-part segments for offset within the connection of the machine drive and needle eye with a stitch channel on the shuttle side according to the pattern or function determined, the 4/4-segment offset change being switched selectively with one or more needles via a command centre to the full height or width of the embroidering zone, in direct correspondence with the information carrier and taking into account the associated secondary functions, and the pattern alternatives being acquired after each pattern run-through via the command centre.
