A dowel fastening having a sleeve-shaped dowel, exhibiting barb-type claws on the peripheral wall, and having a screw for engaging in the dowel and expanding the same. The technical problem is that of providing a dowel fastening by means of which the parts to be fastened can be aligned before the dowel fastening is definitively locked in place. The inner side of the dowel (1) has two mutually opposite, essentially planar walls (6) and two further walls (7) which are at right angles to the planar walls and have locking grooves (8), the mutual spacing of the grooved walls (7) being smaller than the spacing of the planar walls (6). The shank (13) of the screw (2) has an outer diameter which corresponds to the spacing of the grooved walls (7), measured in the groove base, and has two planar surfaces (14) which are aligned in parallel with each other and the spacing of which corresponds to the spacing of the planar walls (6) of the dowel. <IMAGE>
