The stepped fire grate is for burning solid fuel both of low and high calorific value and comprises beams and different grating profiled sections forming the steps. It is hollow and forms part of a circuit through which a coolant flows. - The grate can be formed by two manifolds connected together by hollow profiled grating sections, and at their ends to the coolant circuit. The manifolds can run horizontally, being connected by horizontal sections, then sloping upwards and being joined by sections forming the steps and finally sloping towards each other.
