Membranes for micro-, ultra- and hyperfiltration based on an organic binder (I) are made by dissolving the (I) in an organic solvent; forming a suspension of the binder soln. and a metal oxide (II) with a particle size of at most 1 micrometre, with a wt. ratio (II):(I) of 25/75 to 95/5; and forming the suspension into the desired form and removing the solvent. - (I) is pref. polysulphone or polyvinylidene fluoride. (II) is pref. an oxide of Al or Zr.
