<p>An omnidirectional support (10) including a pair of wheels (18) rotating about a horizontal axis (36) with bearings having a first resistance to rotation of the wheels. A stem assembly having a vertical axis (34) in alignement with the horizontal axis includes a thrust bearing having a second resistance to rotation. The second resistance being lower than the first resistance so that during movement of the support, the first resistance is effective to move the wheels into alignement with the direction of travel rather than relying on offset vertical and horizontal axis to effect the movement as was previously done and which causes wear. To reduce noise and potential damage to an underlying surface, each wheel may include a tire (54, 56). To accommodate perturbations in the underlying surface, the horizontal axis can move in a vertical plane by using a pivot (64) that defines a pivot axis.</p> |
