The invention relates to an apparatus for the coating of surfaces, such as cylinder slide bushes, shafts, shaft sections and other rotationally symmetrical parts as well as plane surfaces, by means of a rotating rub-on pin in order to improve the run-in of the components and increase the reliability and service life. The object of the invention is to provide an apparatus for the uniform coating of said parts with copper or copper-containing alloys. According to the invention, the rub-on pins are rotatably mounted in clamping devices, the clamping devices being arranged at an acute angle in the rub-on head and connected via a transmission member to a drive unit and the pressure unit. Furthermore, the object of the invention is to provide an apparatus for the coating of metallic outer surfaces, by means of which a line contact and a high rubbing rate are achieved between workpiece and rub-on pin. This is achieved in that the rub-on pin, rotating in the opposite direction to the shaft, is assigned to the shaft at the angle alpha .
