PURPOSE:To counts up the number of steps correctly even at the time of walking on a gravel road or stages by removing noises other than detecting signals corresponding to the walking from outputs signals of a sensor. CONSTITUTION:The sensor 1 is set up on a foot carrying part of footwear to detect the number of steps. Output signals from the sensor 1 are processed by a selecting circuit 15 and a comparator 16, counted up as the number (n) of steps and converted into the number (N) of steps of both feet by an arithmetic circuit 19 and the number (N) of steps is displayed on a display part 20. The circuit 15 selects the maximum pulse width which is the signal corresponding to the walking within a prescribed period counted by a timer 21. The comparator 16 compares the pulse width with a prescribed pulse width, and only when the pulse width is the prescribed pulse width or more, the signal is regarded as the one corresponding to the walking and counted up by a counting circuit 18 as the number (n) of steps. Thus, only detecting signals corresponding to practical walking are counted up and the current number of steps can be displayed on the display unit 20.
