PURPOSE:To correct suitably density of an image output by registering the pattern information of a dither matrix as index information of respective file. CONSTITUTION:When registering the image information, an encoder 63 decides whether the dither matrix pattern to be oused is Bayer or Fatting, ROM62a or ROM62b respectively is accessed depending on whose result, and the dither image processing is applied to the image information. The dither matrix pattern information at this time is used as the index information of the dither image to be registered. By the output of the encoder 63, a buffer 64 is opened in for ward direction of the registration mode, the index information and the image are registered in the image file through a convertion register 67. Meanwhile, in case of density correction by reading the image information, the pattern of dither matrix used is judged based on the registered index information, then density correction processings 66a and 66b are performed to convert 61 the image to a suitable form, and output it.
