PURPOSE:To enable forming of a grindstone for obtaining always ideal contour over a workpiece by outputting a travel locus of a forming tool into a driving means in response to varying diameter of the grindstone computed from relative distances between the grindstone and detected center of travel of the forming tool. CONSTITUTION:X-, Y- and Z-coordinates of a diamond dresser 9, detected with respective sensors 15, 16 and 17 on respective axes, are fed back to a computing control unit 18. Using the fed-back signals, present location of the diamond dresser 9 is inputted through an interface 19 into a computing section 20 where grindstone diameter as well as travel locus suitable for the grindstone diameter are computed and outputted to an NC device 21. Then the NC device can give a grindstone contour suitable for the grindstone diameter at every dressing of the grindstone 8 by outputting travel signals to a servo-motor 22 for driving the diamond dresser 9, enabling grinding of a workpiece with high accuracy.
