PURPOSE:To switch automatically an answering tape into a receiving tape by detecting a pause of several seconds in transmitting an answering word so as to generate a beap tone, stopping the answering tape so as to drive the receiving tape thereby stopping the answering tape at a pause period after a timer time. CONSTITUTION:A call signal incoming to terminals L1,L2 of an automatic answering telephone device is fed to a CPU9 via a ringing circuit 1 and an OR gate G-4, a program of the CPU9 discriminates the call signal, a relay driver 8 is driven to close a telephone line. In this state, an answering tape drive circuit is driven to transmit a message from the reply tape T-1 to the telephone line via an analog switch G-1 and a line transformer LT. In this case, an interblock for a prescribed period of the tape T-1 is detected by an answering tape start point detection circuit 7 and fed to a CPU9. Then the tape T-1 is driven for the prescribed period, then the tape T-1 is stopped auto matically to drive the receiving tape drive circuit 6, and the tape is switched to the reception table T-2.
