PURPOSE:To obtain a refractory paint suppressing temp. rise of metal and emitting no harmful gas during a fire, by compounding a specified epoxy mixture with a phosphoric acid compd., a phosphate frit, a hydrous inorg. compd. and a refractory fiber. CONSTITUTION:A refractory paint prepd. by compounding 100pts.wt. epoxy mixture comprising diglycidyl tetrahydrophthalate or diglycidyl hexahydrophthalate and a curing agent primarily composed of a heterocyclic polyamine compd. with 30-80pts.wt. phosphoric acid compd., 20-80pts.wt. hydrous inorg. compd. and 0.5-20pts.wt. refractory fiber. Ammonium polyphosphate and melamine phosphate are pref. as the phosphate compd. to be used, and hydrous alumina is most pref. as the hydrous inorg. compd. Asbestos, a glass fiber, a phenolic fiber and the like pref. about 0.5-10mm in length are used as the refractory fiber.
