Process for the manufacture of spinnable polyamides utilizing a mixture of an oxygenated phosphorus compound and an oxygenated boron compound as catalyst

The process for manufacturing a nylon-type polyamide from a dinitrile, a diamine and water in the presence of a catalyst is improved by using as a catalyst an oxygenated phosphorus compound and an oxygenated boron compound. For example, high quality nylon-6,6 is manufactured by contacting adiponitrile, hexamethylene diamine and water with boric acid and phosphorous acid at an elevated temperature and pressure.
