PURPOSE:To easily and quickly analyze the correctness, etc., of received data, by print-outputting received printing codes in decimal-digit display and function code names to received function codes. CONSTITUTION:When a change-over switch which switches the mode of a printer from ordinary printing mode to analyzing mode and, vice versa, is set to the analyzing mode, the 1st data converting means 6 divides printing codes inputted from a host device 1 into four-bit units and converts sexadecimal digit codes indicated by each four bits into printing codes to be printed, and then, outputs the printing codes. The 2nd data converting means 7 converts function codes inputted from the host device 1 into printing codes for printing the function means and outputs the printing codes. The converted outputs of the 1st and 2nd data converting means 6 and 7 are stored in a random access memory 4 and print-outputted by means of a print controlling section 5.
