PURPOSE:To improve performance by using the silane compd. expressed by the specific formulas a reagent for incorporating a functional group into the surface of a silica gel thereby making possible the manufacture of a pack capillary column of a chemical bond type silica gel and making possible the application of the titled method to the chemical modification of the inside wall of an open capillary column as well. CONSTITUTION:The chemical bond type silica gel packing material is obtd. by bringing the silane compd. expressed by the formula into reaction with the silica gel. The chemical modification of the packed column packed already therein with the silica gel including the packed capillary column is executed by substituting the inside of said columns with an org. solvent having no active hydrogen (hexane, benzene, toluene, etc.) and feeding a soln. prepd. by adding the silane compd. to such solvent into the columns. The reaction is accelerated in this stage by maintaining the columns near the b.p. of the solvent used. The soln. is sent to the columns at such a substantial amt. at which the silane compd. is excessive with respect to the silica gel. The same method is applicable for treating the inside surface of the open capillary column as well. |
