PURPOSE:To attain a dynamic change of the constitution of a duplex shared DASD by providing a communication device between both systems connected roughly through a shared file memory DASD and carrying out communication between those two systems. CONSTITUTION:When a hardware fault of a DASDb2 is detected, a system A1 gives information on the separation of the DASDb2 to other systems B1 and C1 via a communication device 3 after confirming that these systems B1 and C1 are not under a separation mode to the DASDb2. Receiving this information, both systems B1 and C1 stops the input/output processing and cancels an input/output processing request for the DASDb2 and gives access only to a DASDa2 for the DASDb2. Here the system A1 confirms via the device 3 that the input/output processing is stopped to the DASDb2 of other systems and performs the actual separation. The system A1 also uses the device 3 to connect the DASDb2 to the DASDa2 for duplication.
