PURPOSE:To obtain the titled derivative useful as a precursor of a polyacene- type polymer used as a high-sensitivity pattern-forming material or highly electro-conductive organic material, in high purity, by polymerizing a monomer of 1,3-butadiyne-substituted material in the presence of a metathesis polymerization catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The monomer of 1, 3-butadiyne-substituted material of formula HCidenticalC-CidenticalCR (R is substituent group) is polymerized in the presence of prefer ably 1-100mm-mol of a metathesis polymerization catalyst (e.g. using a halide, oxide, etc., of the transition metal of the groups IVa-VIII of the periodic table as a main catalyst and using 0.1-10.0pts. of a cocatalyst such as methanol, tetraethyltin, etc., per 1.0pt. of the main catalyst).
