PURPOSE:The titled water stopping material having improved adhesivity even to concrete surface, metallic surface, etc., obtained by molding a water-swelling unvulcanized rubber composition into a shape for water stopping material, coating previously the surface of the molded article to be bonded to a material with a rubber-type adhesive, and vulcanizing the molded article. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, a water-swelling unvulcanized rubber composition consisting essentially of a rubber component such as natural rubber, etc. and a highly water absorbing resin is molded into a shape suitable for a water stopping material. The surface of the molded article of the rubber composition, corresponding to the bonded face of a material to be bonded is previously coated with a rubber-type adhesive, the molded article is vulcanized or heat- treated by a well-known method such as vulcanization pressing, etc., to give the aimed water stopping material. An adhesive using neoprene rubber, etc., as a rubber component is preferable as the rubber-type adhesive.
