PURPOSE:To eliminate the exhaustion of oil and to aim at damping pulsation of high pressure gas and at simplifying the structure of a scroll type compressor, by discharging high pressure gas from a compression chamber at once into the upper space in a shell, and by providing such an arrangement that separated oil may be surely returned into an oil sump through an oil return pipe. CONSTITUTION:The inside of a shell 42 is sectioned into an upper space 47a and a lower space 47b, and high pressure gas is discharged into the upper space 47a from compression chambers 4, 5 to separate oil from the gas in the space 47a. Thus the separated oil 48 is surely returned into an oil sump 42 along a motor stator 40 through an oil return hole 46 communicating between the upper space 47a and the lower space 47b and the gap 51 between the shell 42 and the motor stator 40, and therefore, the exhaustion of oil may be eliminated. Accordingly, the separation of oil from gas and the damping of pulsation of high pressure gas may be made, and it is possible to aim at making the scroll type compressor compact. Further, a discharge pipe 45 for gas after separation is secured to the wall of the shell 42 alone and therefore, a stationary scroll 2 is subjected to no deformation due to thermal expansion, thereby it is possible to prevent both scrolls 2, 3 from being seized therebetween.
