PURPOSE:To obtain a polyfunctional ester having low coloring industrially advantageously, by reacting methacrylic acid or acrylic acid with trimethylolpropane in the presence of both a solid decoloring agent such as activated alumina, etc., and an acid catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Methacrylic acid or acrylic acid is reacted with trimethylolpropane in the presence of preferably 0.01-5wt% (especially 0.1-2wt%) based on theoretical formation ester of a solid decoloring agent such as activated alumina, Molecular Sieve (especially preferably activated clay, active carbon, etc.) and an acid catalyst such as sulfuric acid, p- toluenesulfonic acid, etc., to give trimethylolpropane methacrylate or acrylate. By this method, the titled compound having a number of colors of <=APHA 30 and low coloring can be obtained by a simple operation. |
